More Than A Trend

POSTED BY CJ

Someone asked me a question today I never considered how to answer. He asked, “Why do you think social justice and creativity seem to go hand-in-hand?”

It’s true. How many benefit concerts, compilation CDs, art shows, documentaries, and fashion accessories exist in the world to bring aid and awareness to others in need? Is it just a trend we’re currently witnessing at this point in history? I don’t believe it can be wrapped up that simply.

There is a natural connection between causes and creativity that links people from across the globe because creativity is the most transferable language humanity knows.  It grounds us, it gathers us, it compels us close to one another, and generates conversation, which in turn, leads to more creativity.

There are two things that run deep in the marrow of all humans that have the potential to birth creativity:

1. We possess this innate urge to express ourselves, to shout to the world, “I’m significant! I matter!”

2. We possess an even deeper urge to express to others their worth, to affirm, “YOU’RE significant! YOU matter!”

Unfortunately, the second characteristic often gets overshadowed by the first and wars break out..

But there’s something beautiful that transpires when the two truths collide and begin to orbit each other like electrons around a nucleus.

We at SOUNDS LIKE A MOVEMENT want to get good at tapping into the creative potential of our generation for the sake of self- AND others-expression.

We invite you to join us. After all, you are the movement.
